This blog lives at the intersection of people, power, and the unpredictable world of Human Resources.

I write about the chaos of work and HR, not to romanticize it or wallow in it, but to reframe it. HR is more than policy rewrites and compliance updates. It’s full of complexity, contradiction, and moments that matter. Once we stop pretending it’s all neat, buttoned-up, and soulless, we can start seeing what’s real and what needs to change.

I write from inside the work; with over 30 years in HR, in hospitals, hotels, casinos, and logistics operations, I’ve led the teams, cleaned up the wreckage, coached leaders through the circus, and cried in my office more than once. Since 2010, blogging is how I make sense of it all, out loud.

Welcome to HR Chaos. Reframed.

What I Do

I currently serve as Head of People at BelleSage Partners, manage audience and community for QHR Connect, and through my advisory firm, Velvet Cubicle, work with HR teams and leaders on people management and talent strategy.

Along the way, I’ve written for Fast Company, SHRM, Recruiting Daily, HR Examiner, and others, spoken at HR and business events from Houma, Louisiana to London to Sydney, and worked with vendors across the HR tech and services space. I co-host Drive Thru HR, one of the longest-running podcasts in the field, with nearly 1,700 episodes since 2010.

That’s also the year I started blogging (back at the HR Schoolhouse), and the goal hasn’t changed: conversations, ideas, and hot takes, mixed with a soupçon of irreverence. My first book, Real HR, came out in 2025, and my second, Real Work, is in the works.

I’ve served on advisory boards for HROnboard, BlackbookHR, SmartBrief on Workforce, Geaux Veterans, and the Louisiana Business Leadership Network. And yes, I did a swing through various and assorted volunteer leadership roles with that one professional organization.

I’m a Saints fan (#WhoDat), a dog devotee (Mr. Crumples, Eddy von Schooling, and Emmitt Benoit), and forever in search of the perfect French 75.

Cheer!
