who is Robin Schooling

This blog lives at the intersection of people, power, and the unpredictable world of Human Resources.

I write about the chaos of work and HR – not to romanticize it, not to wallow in it, but to reframe it. Because HR isn’t just full of fire drills and policy rewrites; it’s full of complexity, contradiction, and moments that matter. And when we stop pretending it’s all neat and buttoned-up – with no soul – we’ll start seeing both what’s real and what needs to change.

As an HR strategist, speaker, and longtime practitioner, I write from inside the work. I’ve led teams, cleaned up the messes, coached leaders through the nonsense, and cried in my office more than once. This blog is where I make sense of it all – out loud.

Welcome to HR Chaos. Reframed.

About Me

As a People + Work Strategist, I focus on HR and talent strategy work and content creation (writing, speaking, podcast) both here and with advisory firm Velvet Cubicle.

I’ve written for Fast Company, Recruiting Daily, SHRM, HR Examiner, and others. I speak at HR and business events around the world, co-host the long-running DriveThruHR podcast, and collaborate with vendors across the HR tech and services space.

I started blogging in 2010 (at the HR Schoolhouse) and have always had the same goal: have real conversations where we can share ideas and hot takes, all mixed up with a soupcon of irreverence. I released my first book, Real HR, in 2025 and my second book, Real Work, will be released in 2026.

Advisory board credits include HR Onboard, BlackbookHR, SmartBrief on Workforce, Geaux Veterans, and the Louisiana Business Leadership Network. And yes, I did a swing through various and assorted volunteer leader roles with that one professional organization.

I’m a Saints fan (#WhoDat), dog devotee (Frank Lapidus, Mr. Crumples, Eddy von Schooling and Emmitt Benoit), and forever searching for the perfect French 75.

#Cheers
